Since this is the early release of the orbiter v2 mount, It would be helpful to get some feedback. I would like to make this toolhead as great as possible so I will need feedback to improve it. Please provide it here if you run into any major issues. I'm also in the discord under the same name, spacelab_2021#2666. Feel free to hit me up with questions or concerns.

Thank you so much. I'll definitely try it out if an ERCF compatible version gets made.

So I'm still learning about the Multi material ERCF, and it seems it needs an filament sensor after the extruder. I saw that the galileo toolhead did this and just used a endstop senor and a ball bearing, 7mm or so. Is this the compatibility you are referring to?

The stock AB fan mount portion of the toolhead does not fit with this mount. The orbiter extruder protrudes by slightly less than a quarter inch too much. It seems like the fan shroud portion of the afterburner could be modified to work though. I'll get some measurements and post again. Discord is MarsBio#

Yes, but I believe that is the old mod. Now there is an official version here: https://github.com/EtteGit/EnragedRabbitProject/tree/main/Filament_Sensor/Stls/Galileo

and you use these parts: https://deepfriedhero.in/products/enraged-rabbit-carrot-feeder-toolhead-sensor-kit

So far, for people using ERCF we are limited to Galileo, LGX, and CW1. There is a 3rd party mod now for LGX Lite too. None of these extruders really compare to Orbiter 2.0 though!

Here is a short Nero made showing how the ERCF works.

Awesome, that's a step forward. Do you have an assembly guide or just tips on how to assembly the parts into the toolhead? I did a quick look and didn't see anything, so I figured I would ask you if you had any since you seem to know more about this system. Thanks!

I made this modification to the clockwork fan section (removed lower part of circle here with exacto) and the orbiter v2.0 fits properly. Before it would interfere with this part.

Thank you so much for making this mod btw, I was about to switch to a mantis hot end xD

It can be found on page 74 of the ercf manual here https://github.com/EtteGit/EnragedRabbitProject/tree/main/Documentation

You won't actually need an ercf setup to test it either, page 82 shows how to test the sensor is working.

Thanks for looking into this, there are a lot of us who would be interested in your mod. You can always stop by the ercf channel on Voron Discord, Ette, the dev is very active there.

I see that the LGX also has a sensor mod, so I might be able to quickly use that one since it's similar to the Orbiter mount. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll add it to the list and I'll get this fixed in the next release.

I bought the sensor kit so I'll do some mockups and see if I can incorporate this quickly into the next release.

Thank you! I bought an Orbiter 2.0 today and will start testing your current mod as soon as I can!

Is there a PCB cover that works with this? And how about a non-igus generic chain anchor? Trident called for 3 hole generic cable chains in the BOM.

I uploaded the generic chain anchor for the three hole versions. image.thumb.png.52d2022cb7c55eb40dfe44dd37cbcea4.png

Hi, super interested in upgrading to an orbiter 2.0 - is galileo the official AB mod term? I'm a little confused. Will this be SB compatible? I currently have an ABBN 30 which is great so I was curious if I should wait until the SB is officially released out of beta to go orbiter 2.

Cheers,

galileo is the official term BUT for the orbiter 1.5 on the AB. you can make the abbn 30 fan fit the orbiter but youll have to mod the housing like posted above. i have not gotten the stealthburner front assemby to fit the obiter at all mainly because the sb is bmg by default. if you want to try this without major trial and error just use the orbiter 1.5. my main goal is to use the 2.0 with an ercf setup im trying to do.

Cheers,

Galileo is an extruder made from parts of Orbiter 1.5, but different housing basically. This mod is just for Orbiter 2.0.

Im also planning on running this with ercf. The dev is working on making it happen. I know he wants to release a version that works with AB and SB too .

V2 Afterburner Update

I've added the next revision v2, which adds fixes a few issues with fitment on the afterburner toolhead. I had to slice the back of the fan to get the V2 to sit just right and for printability of the afterburner fan shroud.

This should be tested to ensure it fits properly and doesn't interact with the fan too much. There potentially could be a few problems with this setup but it's one of the best solutions I could come up with that didn't modify the afterburner fan too much.

V2 Stealthburner update

I've added the stealthburner mount for the v2 as well. The V2 is so far forward that it requires a ton of work to get it to fit properly. This version was printed and semi tested but I need others to verify if it actually works on their stealthburner. I think I've included all the necessary parts to make this work but if you find something missing, please let me know and I'll add it to the repo.

*Also, each version is now hopefully compatible with the ERCF.

If anyone has printed the stealthburner version, can you verify if the fitment is correct and if there are any issues? I have yet to fully print that version so I haven't done a lot of testing with it.

I've printed the mount for the stealth burner and ran into a few fitment issues. I am running the latest stealth burner beta as of 20 MAY 2022.

Fitment issues:
1) On the back end of the mount, there  is interference between the edge of the orbiter motor, and the side wall.

image.thumb.png.5028c68ad513554da2c7c136a4b4f701.png

2) There is also a conflict where this flange sits in the space the SHCS fastener head for the cable chain mount.

Other issues:

3) This thin part of plastic at the base of the shroud is particularly weak. I broke it during print removal, and then it broke completely when in use once the cable chain was attached.

image.thumb.png.9ef9b40c591ac6663cb7e686a339bfa4.png

4) It is quite difficult to get a tool in to do up the orbiter's mounting fastener underneath the shroud. You can still fit a the short end of a hex key from the front, but that is cumbersome.image.thumb.png.2fcb2307c9108d7d89ce4dd90e8bd315.png

Suggested fixes:

Based on these issues, I propose a number of changes. I have edited the models to make it easier to understand.

image.thumb.png.7b77ef0e40ae224b4539a5d92ada353d.png

a) I have added a cutout to fit the long end of a hex key down to do up the mounting fastener.
image.thumb.png.566421c95cf30ca36a62a9368c417ed9.png

b) I have extended the back end of the shroud around to attach to one of the orbiters assembly bolts. Secured with a hex nut. This is still a cumbersome assembly step, but will have to do more testing to see if it required or not. Hope fully it can be removed...

image.thumb.png.4ee5f81b904f4de0605d2b398d8e8ffa.png

c) The thin part that was prone to breaking has been thickened significantly.

image.png.132b3af1a7913047c908ccc75511fc51.png

d) Clearance added to orbiter flange fastener
image.thumb.png.585c1d3ac80ab34c3448246219ce8353.png

e) I removed the one of the  two fasteners mounting the holding the cable chain anchor on. Instead I replaced it with a shear key.

Still yet to print and test these changes, I'll provide an update once that has been done.chain_anchor_3hole-beta1_CONCEPTMODS_V1.stlRear_body_Orbiter_v2_Lite_Stealthburner_ERCF_rev01_CONCEPTMODS_V1.stlFront_body_Orbiter_v2_Lite_Stealthburner_ERCF_rev01_CONCEPTMODS_V1.stl

i just printed it last night. the  stock SB front cover (with the fan installed) seems to be interfering/ hitting the orbiter v2 gear housing itself( the bearing portion that sticks out). this leaves a slight gap between the front fan housing and front body mount. the easiest solution would be to modify the front portion of front body stl out a few mm.

everything else is spot on physically.

i have NOT tried to edit the stl myself yet as i just printed it for test fitment.
