Voron 2.4r2 seems to lose printhead position??

shiftynick

Question

Hey All,

I'm having a weird/random behavior with my printer.  All was fine until about 1 month ago.  The issue:  The printer seems to randomly lose its reference position.  What I mean by this is that the printer will randomly miss the endstop  when homing XYZ.  Another issue that I've noted involves the print start sequence.  I have the PRINT_START sequence (file included) set so that performs the following:

  • Initial CG28
  • Bed heating, etc.
  • Gantry leveling
  • Nozzle cleaning
  • Z calibration
  • Another nozzle cleaning
  • Purge line
  • Print

Additional behavior that I'm seeing is that the printer will conduct what appears to be a successful Z calibration sequence, and then start the Nozzle cleaning sequence, but be a good 10mm above the nozzle brush.  When this happens, the printer will then go to do a Purge Line, but also be about 10mm (roughly) high for the purge line as well.  I cannot figure out the issue.

I've retightened the belts,  tried swapping out the Stepper motor drivers, checked for loose connections.  I'm at a  loss.  Has anyone had similar issues or able to offer any insight?

A sincere thank you in advance!

The first thing I would suggest is check the grub screws on the pulleys on the motors. But you mention swapping them out, so I'll guess those are secure now.

It seems  you've gone through the process I would think of. After that I guess check that the endstops are triggering correctly. Then see if the printer homes ok just by itself. Other than that I'm not sure, that's a weird issue.

Thank you for the reply!

To clarify, I did not swap the motors, only the drivers. Swapping the drivers did not help.  Your suggestion was one that  had not thought of yet.  I did check the AB motor grub screws, 4 in total, and all were snug, so this does not seem to be the issue.

The machine was printing fine until about 1 month ago.  It has roughly 825hrs on it.  Is there anything else that I should be looking at?
