Spindle Lock with "Safety interlock"

I'm planning on implementing this spindle lock on my bench mill. The convenience is that you don't need to hold the second wrench to hold back the spindle from turning, allowing a one-handed operation for tool changes. The design of the model was sketched by tomL on Discord. He was kind enough to share. I re-modelled it to fit my spindle and added a second microswitch.

Safety interlock:

  • One microswitch is wired in series with the enable wire going from the Scylla control board to the VFD. This keeps the spindle from spinning up with the spindle lock key in place.
  • The second microswitch is wired to the Scylla Z-min endstop (input), so a message shows up in the GUI reminding the operator that the key is still in place.

3D printed the components for the mockup, found that I need to add 2mm to the top ring so it sits flush against the spindle.

I need to model a new mounting plate for my 80mm spindle LED's.

Now to machine these components in aluminum.
