First layer issue

Cheers Methos! To answer your question, I'm using 0.2 as my initial layer height, which is default for me. I do at times use a higher initial layer height, but normally not.

I was having similar issues with printing an ABS part a few days ago, in that same area. I wanted to test with a less problematic material, so switched over to PLA to check. Initial test "patch" shown above. I reprinted to double check and the issue was gone, so I'm assuming some ABS may have been stuck in the nozzle, but worked it's way out ? All seems to be fine now.

Thee could have been it. I was going to ask about print height and speed. It looks a like feed issues to me. When swapping materials, I'll heat the nozzle to the upper end of the hotter material and purge enough to be sure it's all the new material running. If it gets stubborn, I have a small spool of cleaning filament I picked up a  while ago and I'll run that through at a high temp.

When switching between filaments with higher and lower temperatures I run about 100 mm of cleaning filament through the hot end. I too had issues strange issues going from PetG to ABS and back again. I had done it for years, then I found cleaning filament and use it when I change filament types.

Thanks claudermilk and polyneutron!

I do have some of that cleaning filament. I once had a Makergear M3 that would continuously get clogged / blocked with filament. Got quite good at the old "cold pull" method until I discovered the cleaning filament. I should use it more often. I actually forgot I had it.

My LDO trident has always had first layer issues, and I've never been able to fully sort it out. The machine itself has been rebuilt from scratch 4 times now.... long story, but whenever I see issues with my first layer, I immediately assume it's more related to something other than the extruder. Happy to say I was wrong this time.
