The good and the bad... Share your experiences on filament, help the next idiot ;-)

Its hard to find good experiences/or bad ones that are trustworthy on filaments.

I just want to share mine, and feel free to add yours, just as long as they are based on your own experiences, and reasonably tested.

I print on 2 Vorons, 2.4 R2 - Dragon SF hotend, upgraded with all kind of mods, but nothing crazy.

My setup (today, and will change every day :-)), I love the fimant spindle hanging system, this changed my life:

20220727_095023693_iOS.thumb.jpg.1f01f7419613c44eb4898a731de3df3b.jpgI print mostly ASA, since I like the finish often, but a big downside is the lack of color choices, but its getting better, the price also.. its quite more expensive than ABS.

I have a lot of experience printing PLA also, absolutely the best material for simple, strong things (PLA+ especially) but not useful in warm environments.

So for the next posts... adding some brands/color experiences...

Again, feel free to add your own, maybe use this template:

I thought, I try this "cheap" ASA filament from Amazon, its ok priced, not much choice in ASA to be honest.

  • Brand: WINKLE
  • Filament Type: ASA
  • Color: NOIR (Black)
  • Spindle Weight: 1kg
  • Price: 23.14 Euro (pretty good price for a kg, but yes read on...)
  • Nozzle (C) Temp: 250/255
  • Bed (C) Temp: 107
  • Photo added?: Yes
  • Rating 1/10: 3
  • Experience: I liked the way it printed, I liked the finish, the color, printing quality also ok, no obvious smells.
  • Yet into a 10 hour print... after about 6 hours, I had the feeling something went wrong, on the CAM it looked like no progress was made, and I assumed a clogged nozzle (would have been the first since I use the Voron/Dragon). But then I noticed the stuck filament....
  • So.... its going back to Amazon, still have onothe spindle of it, keeping an eye on it.. but not buying it again.... this sucks.
  • UPDATE: second spindle same issue, went back to my trusted Filament, no problems. had 4 times stuck filament, threw away two nozzles.

    • PROs: This stuff is my go-to workhorse.  It just gets the job done.  When I need something that I don't really need to think about, this is it.
    • CONs: I am less thrilled that the price has been creeping up over the last couple of years.  In the before-times you could pick up a spool for ~$18.
