LDO Box Turtle Kit (Batch 2) - Unboxing

I ordered and paid for a LDO Box Turtle kit on the 16th November 2024 and it finally arrived today. Since ordering it, I have completed a self sourced Box Turtle and obtained a serial for it. And it has been put to use. So how does the kit compare to my self sourced effort, and was it worth the wait?

Well , definitely yes. The quality of the kit is amazing. All the components came  grouped together and well labeled. Opening the box, you are met with a documentation folder. This only contains the packing list. There is a separate A4 sheet for mounting the turtleneck buffer.

Removing the documents folder reveals the First layer:

What particularly surprised me was the fact that the rubber wheels and feet were included, thus no printing with TPU.

A further surprise was the inclusion of a Full filamentrix kit.

The second layer revealed the motors, controller board and a parcel called Main Kit.

But the surprises did not end there - a set of helical gears are included as well - thus no need to print these either!

The included N20 motors were the high torque motors found on Isik Tech's site, and not the Aliexpress variant I got for my self sourced build. Apparently these are much quieter.

All in all - an excellent kit

I think this will be a pleasure to build.

I agree.. I am building this kit myself now and it has the usual good LDO quality.

For the people who want to build this Kit (or another one) I have now completed the printed part list on google sheets.

you can copy this list to your place and use it as a guide.

@mvdknaap Does the turtle box fit on top of a 300 printer?

Yes it does. Mine is on the V2.4r2 300mm build.

Without the enclosure:                                                                                                 With the enclosure:

LDO makes excellent kits. They are premium priced, but you get well-organized, premium components. Plus unexpected extras.

Forgot to mention the little LDO Boxturtle Keyring!

Thanks - I previously used the configurator from the BoxTurtle documentation, but as this is specific to the LDO kit - will use this instead

@mvdveer Thanks for this thread on the LDO kit, I've started printing parts for this kit. I operate a snowplow for a local company for some extra cash and we have back-to-back snow storms in Ontario, Canada (something you don't have to deal with 😉) so I should be able to purchase the kit from Spartan3D when they're back in stock link here. It will be installed on the Trident 300!

Thank you for the great write up, I'm curious if it included the printed led diffusers? I don't really want to buy a whole spool for just those 4 parts haha

No, unfortunately you will have to print those. If you are in Australia, I could print them and send them to you. If not, then maybe someone close to where you are, may be willing to. Or perhaps a printing service, but that would cost more than a spool of clear filament.

the led diffusers are not included in the kit, but there is a 10m transparent PETG filament "sample" included in the kit. this is enough to print the diffusers yourself.

Thank you for the offer, not in Australia unfortunately, but it's appreciated!
