interesting ERCF alternative OpenAMS

There's a very interesting piece of electronics to convert Bambulabs AMS to work on any klipper based printer.

it consists of 2 pcb's, a filament pressure sensor and a new main PCB for AMS itself. I bought it and it works really great, colour changes and infinite spooling with no more fila buffers needed and much faster on fila changes than ercf 😍. you can find the project here: OpenAMS

Sounds good, BUT AMS from Bambulabs = AUD 476 (on sale - normally AUD535),  and PCB Filament sensor bundle AUD138 = AUD 614

So as an alternative if money is not a concern, it sounds great, but starting from scratch..... mmmmh - costly.  However, compared to the Box Turtle kits at AUD 525, it doesn't sound that bad after all.

Good to have choices. And from what I have been reading, this seems the best option for the least effort!

I rather go old style and try the base where all that stuff comes from.

The SMuFF still is an active version and I'm on to build it. Also they have a auto spool version too. It is just not so compact like the ams or box turtle. But the inventor of it is dam helpfull.

Interesting!

I was just checked the pricing on these items.  The Armored Turtle from West 3D is $299.  The Bambu AMS is $309.  Add in the Open AMS and FMS bundle for $85, and we are at $394.

I sure wish I had the time to dive into this, but life has thrown me a curve ball....  Divorce after 36 years.  Moving.  Etc.

Thanks, buddy.  Yep, I'm fine.  Well, except for the $750k that I am losing.  LOL.  (It's only money, right?!!)

Still hurts, and a bummer to start again. I wish you well.

Just to see how it works - I have bitten the bullet and boards are on the way. Bambulabs AMS was delivered yesterday. Are there any instructions on replacing the various boards. Could not find any in the documentation.

Edit: Found the link in the discord chat. Here it is for those wanting to know

Well ams as you said is not cheap and I'm not a fan of clipper. Since I turned over from reprap from Marlin I don't want to go back. Also I don't need a pi for that stuff and reprap also is capable now for can and the comparing stuff it's far easyer to set up a printer. Next project after the multi colour on the switchwire will be a 400x400 core one.

With also multi colour 🥰
