Mainsail - something different

How do I get back to the details, the only way I can edit the file is via  SSH.

This has happened to me on a few occasions. Restart mainsail and it should be back to normal again.  Another option is to uninstall mainsail in KIAUH and then re-install if the first doesn't work.

So the adventure continues.

A restart didn't help.

So I uninstalled it with KIAUH and tried to reinstall mainsail via KIAUH -

It's all going titsup.

###### Updating package list...
sudo: unable to execute /usr/bin/apt-get: No such file or directory

It's a good job that I have nothing else planned for today.

I going make up a new memory card.

So, putting in a new memory card didn't help.

However, replacing the pi fixed the issue. This started yesterday (or maybe earlier - you know how the days all blend into one this time of year) - powering up the printer and it wouldn't boot up nor was it visible on the network (via my router), power cycling it 2 or 3 times eventually got it to boot up.

So maybe it had nothing to do with Mainsail, maybe it was a dodgy pi.

But...know I have extremely loud steppers on X & Y.

And this children is a graphic example why you shouldn't use the P.O.S called Mainsail

I love the detailed explanation! I think the reference is to RRF.

Another thing could create filesystem issues is the SD card. I use Sandisk Ultra and after a couple of years they start to lose bytes. In production facilities using Raspberry Pi they configure the bootloader to use USB hard drives or SSDs.

A nice article for How to Boot from SSD on Raspberry Pi.

Happy New Year!

The first thing I did was to change the SD card, it didn't cure the problem.

I had a quick look at that article, that will stretch my Pi skills - I may have a go at it later.

So I switched out the Pi and this morning it booted straight up.

Yup, and also why I have a couple Pi4B's stocked as part of my extra, just in case stuff.

Good deal, BTW, I just swapped out the Pi on my RatRig.

Just ordered a Pi5 B 8gb RAM + Active Cooler + NVME Hat + 256 Samsung NVME SSD for $150 US. I have no idea where it will go but I will find something... that's for sure. 😆

Something like GeeekPi M.2 NVME SSD Storage Expansion Board for Raspberry Pi 4 or PCIe M.2 HAT+ for Raspberry Pi 5, Pi 5 NVMe SSD.

btw sorry for the article I attached before, it was confusing with all the "extra" stuff this guy added to the article. Check Tom's Hardware How to Boot Raspberry Pi 4 / 400 From a USB SSD or Flash Drive.

Edit: some better images for the official Pimoroni board: Pimoroni NVMe Base for Raspberry Pi 5
