Experiences with CPAP

Hi all,

anyone got any experiences with CPAP setups, good or bad?  Thinking about it to improve cooling for my Stealthburner when printing PLA.

I don’t really want to print and entire new hotend assembly, and the idea of drawing in cool outside air rather than blowing chamber air appeals.  Bit concerned about the noise though.

thought if any group of people had meaningful insights to share it’d be this one!

Guess I'll chime in here.

As if there was a choice... 😆

I have a VzBot 330 with CPAP.

Pros:

Light weight

Huge air volume

Cons:

Toolhead has to drag around a hose

CPAP fan is very slow to respond. ~2 seconds lag from issuing a command to fan speed ramping up or down and maybe another second or so before the airflow makes its way down the tube and to the nozzle.

Myths:

It does not pull air from outside the chamber

It does not pressurize your chamber

Where does it pull air from then?

the unit I was looking at has the impeller unit mounted on the back of the printer, outside the chamber with the hose passing through a custom exhaust plate. If not from outside the chamber where is the air coming from?

is pulling the hose around any worse than hauling a CAN umbilical around?

So, I also am running a CPAP on my V2.4. (I also sleep with one). It is up to you where you want to get the air from. If you want cooler air for PLA, make the air inlet on the outside of the printer. I use mine to print ABS/ASA and so I draw air from the inside through a filter.

Dragging the air hose is no big deal for me, mine is water cooled also and so drags around the water cooling lines with it.

Yes, there is a bit of lag, normally not an issue for ABS/ASA, but for PLA it may be. However, you would probably crank it to a speed and leave it there. At 100% these things blow too much air. I would be afraid that it would blow over delicate parts of the print at full speed.

All in all I love mine, but it is not a cheap way to go. Even the full kit from BTT is $50+. Then you will need to make your own mount. Some are out there and seem good, so you may find one that works for you, I did not.
