Knomi Skirt

I realized the other day that I don't actually use the display on my Voron. Even though I have klipperscreen setup, I have to scroll to get to all my macros, scroll to see all temps and so on. I usually use mainsail on my phone or computer. With that thought, I kind of wanted to take the display off my voron completely, but integrate the knomi I have, and move it from the stealthburner and try to keep it a bit more minimal.

I took this design and remixed in what I thought would work to hold the knomi in. I sits into a little pocket from the back, pretty close to a friction fit. There are 3 screw holes that can push the display a bit tighter if needed, or be used to hold it in themselves.

This was my first prototype. Just printed the middle section to see how it fit and if it would even work. I started in fusion but it kept crashing on me, not sure what the deal is. Moved to tinkercad. I'm not good at this so hopefully this weekend I can try a full size and show what I have. Wish me luck, I probably need it.

Ok. I finally think I have something that will work. I changed approaches completely. I decided to just have a "model" of the display, that I could import to orca as a "negative part". I used that to essentially remove the body of the skirt model I was using to make a pocket for the knomi. I used a cylinder modifier to make the hole for the screen. Then another to add some walls, and top/bottom immediately around it. Hopefully this will work. It is printing right now.

Interesting idea.

I'm wondering why you have to scroll to see anything on KlipperScreen? The temps graph is the left side of the home screen with the default setup. I don't get into macros much on it, but IIRC it's a button press away (then, yes, you have to scroll when you have a bunch). I do like having it available as a quick way to get inputs to the printer when you are standing right there. Like micro adjusting if the z offset got off somehow, or a quick e-stop or pause if needed.

I probably just have too many things. I like to keep track though in case there is an error or if temps are trending high. Nozzle, bed, pi, octopus, 2209, beacon and chamber....

Too many. 100% on me. I'd just rather be able to see and prevent an overheat than run into a disconnect or failure.

I finally got everything finished and put together. As I was walking to my workbench though, I dropped the knomi, now only half of the screen works. 😕

Oh well. I still think it came out pretty good. I'll post up the files I used shortly in case anyone else would be interested.

Front-skirt-fullsize_350 v1.3mf

Here is the file I printed from. Apparently I cannot delete the only physical part and save just the negative pieces. If you want to use it, just move in the size that you want, and delete out the 350. Or use it as a base for your own knomi mount. The negative of the knomi is set +1.5mm in z so that the lower material is the base. Smaller circle modifier puts the hole through for the display, larger circle modifier makes it solid around it so it has a bit more to mount to.
