New x rail?

WTched some of Thomas salander video and he said the voron design team said you could use only one linear rail instead of two if I understood it right. And looking at the new build manual it looks like it only shows installing one rail. Am I understanding this right or just confused and overwhelmed in this build?

Yes, the V2.4r2 update uses the Trident gantry which uses a single MGN12 rail in place of dual MGN9. That originated as a mod for the V2.4 from my understanding.

Based on what you just said I need to go with the dual rail since all my rails are mgn 9s. Glad you brought that up. Am I thinking correctly?

From what I understand for V2 you now have three options: dual MGN9 per the now-old manual, single MGN9 simply leaving off one (I think the bottom), or go with the r2 update with a single MGN12. Use the one that works for you.

just stick with the r1 revision and you will be okay. I am in the process of building two machines and had started r1 printing. Stopped that and I am migrating all the printing to r2.  I fortunately had only ordered linear rails for one. I will end up using the extra two I have from the first printer to build into the second one. I have a new MGN12 rail coming. I personally want my two printers identical for maintenance reasons.
