Wide Body Trident 250x350

Recommended Posts

The Prusa heated bed on my 250 Trident was starting to get rather flaky so I figured I would bring it up to Voron spec and gain some build volume while I was at it.

I had to cut, drill and tap new 2020 profiles for all of the horizontal pieces of the frame and source a new MGN12 linear rail for the gantry. I was able to rebuild the frame with minimal disassembly.

I will be able to move the control board at least 100mm closer to where the wires route up so I can leave the rat's nest connected until I am ready to mount all of the electronics again.

The only pieces that I had to reprint for this upgrade were the skirts and the nozzle wiper brush holder. Once the printer is back up and running I will use it to print new extrusion filler pieces but in black this time. For the panels, I just bought blank stock and cut them to size. This was rather easy since I had the 250 panels as templates.

I bought a 350x350 build plate, cut it down to 250x350 and drilled new holes. I am still waiting for a custom Keenovo heater but I am dry-fitting everything for now. The heater will run on 240V unlike the 24V Prusa bed.

I will try to get the 3M VHB tape off of all of the door hardware while I am waiting for the bed heater.

Making progress, but still waiting for the bed heater. The electronics bay is ready to go, I just had to design a new bracket for the Prusa MK3S power supply.

The VHB tape was easy enough to remove from the door hardware with the stretch and peel method. The new panels look nice and clean for now but soon enough they will have a film from the ABS fumes.

The loose wire is the ambient temperature sensor that will get routed along with the heated bed cables.
