How to choose the locking method for the output shaft of a NEMA 17 planetary gearbox?

Hello everyone,

When assembling my equipment with a NEMA 17 planetary gearbox, I found that the output shaft has several locking methods, including set screw locking, clamping ring, and keyway.

I'm using a synchronous pulley load, the speed isn't high, but it needs frequent starts and stops. I tried set screw locking, but it occasionally loosens after running for a while.

I'd like to ask everyone, what are the suitable operating conditions for different locking structures? Which one has higher reliability in long-term operation? Are there any installation techniques to prevent loosening? Is it necessary to use threadlocker?

I hope friends with practical experience can give me some advice.

All the gearing on my Trident are secured with set screws per standard assembly instructions. They all have blue Loctite to keep them in place. The printer is not over 4800 hours print time and I've never touched or had an issue with any of the gears on any of my motors.
