Finally, it will be great if they had a CAN version, so another USB cable get eliminated and use existing CAN network on the toolhead! The whole point of using CAN network is to eliminate as many single circuits as possible!

That was the key point for my decision to carto. The carto can be wired to toolhead board via CAN H and CAN L. (https://docs.cartographer3d.com/cartographer-probe/installation-and-setup/probe-installation/wiring-diagrams).Will see if it actually works as expected. The intention of CAN (as invented from Bosch in 80s in Automotive) was to reduce the cable chain to a minimum (of 4). With USB it should work the same way (with USB hub), but I couldn´t find a toolhead board with an USB input plug.

Thanks for your Pros and Contras for the Tab from the practical point of view. The Tab would have been my second alternative. I just saw that my CNC-Kit has a Tab V2 included. I will use that one in my second printer then.
And I totally agree with you: There is a part of academic discussion.

Thank you!

The other day, I was thinking that soon I will “have” to re-built one of my Voron's, probably the 350, for the INDX heads!!

The timing cannot be more hilarious as I just finished developing my custom head including nozzle LEDs and camera!!! 😅

At least I can re-use most of my CPAP Blower design!

That sounds like you are in a "continous development flow"🙂

The printer I will rework in the next time is my first Voron 2.4 and it is from 2018, mostly still original parts (Afterburner, two mainboards, etc.). But now it is time as some ABS parts show small cracks. I really thought about, if a repair / refurbish really makes sense. On the other hand, the mechanics are still perfectly fine. So why scrap them.
Perhaps I write a build log about that....

With the nighthawk the only usb cable goes from pi to intermediate board. The intermediate board has a 6 pin cable going from intermediate to the 6 pin nighthawk. Many of the tool boards come with this cable as it is largely used as can umbilical.

The EBB36 v3 was a bulletproof can install with carto using Esoterica's can write up. I Used it flawlessly until jabberwocky. I wasn't sure that nighthawk passtrough would work. It all worked pretty automatically as it's got klipper pre-loaded. And carto was also there. I still loaded curl part of Cartographer 3D klipper procedure.

LOL! Actually, I had both Voron running with Afterburner for many years, until last year when I thought upgrading the toolhead to the Stealthburner. Personally, the Stealthburner besides all the “cool” options is not as good as the Afterburner; especially for cooling! That's when I jumped in the rabbit hole!

Besides joking I am really happy with the results of my custom-built. Anyway, it's not all lost, only the 350 will have the INDX setup. The other one will remain single filament.

Please keep us up to date on the IDEX system if possible. I have watched several videos and they changed it again in latter 2025.

When I plunge in this new system I will start a new thread. Honestly, I do not see getting to it until next year. I believe in the rule: Never buy version x.0; only even numbered versions!
