Jabberwocky Unboxing

Decided to see what all the fuss was about and ordered a Jabberwocky toolhead. My favourite supplier here in Australia (DremC) did not have any in stock so I put my name on a waiting list and finally a fully assembled unit was delivered. I have entered the wait list for a hardware kit, because - I like to build stuff.

Packaging - Excellent as expected from LDO. The unit was securely packaged, with serial number on the outside of the box. (We love our serials don't we 🙂 )

Opening the box shows a tightly fitted toolhead with accessories

Cables: USB cable, Power cable and probe cable to fit on board USB plug.  (A real bonus as I have crimped one of those for the Orbitool O2S toolbar and it was a Pain - it is tiny)

Plenty of fasteners, spare blades, JST connectors and a USB breakout board.

The toolhead itself is well assembled and excellent print quality

Nice clean wiring to the toolboard:

Still don't know which printer I will fit it to - time will tell.

Interesting. Looks to me a lot like a customized, integrated Dragon Burner + Galileo/Orbiter.

This looks like the extruder parts:

and even a bit of Sherpa,

Besides jokes, I am actually waiting for the Bondtech INDX. I have already built and tried ERCF (v1) and decided for multi-color/multi-material prinitng I rather go with a Toolchanger instead of a MMU head system.

I tried building a tool changer, but the design kept changing and I got frustrated trying to keep up. Now I have 5 Phaetus Rapido Hotends ( 3 x ACE and 2 x V2) and a lot of wasted plastic.. Might revisit it again some day.

I’m going to try them all.  Box turtle. Ercf. Tradrack.  And I’m waiting for the index.

now just have to get all my corona built.  6 builds on going.

Now you sound like me. Built 3 x ERCF's, 2 x Tradrack, 2 x Boxturtle and one Open AMS.

Go Box Turtle - you won't regret it.

Looks like the open-source community is doing the same thing to Bambu that Bambu did to the open-source community. Not complaining, just observing. It's becoming more obvious that Bambu caught lightning in a bottle with their hotend because it and very similar variants seem to be popping up recently and I like seeing new designs enter the makerspace. This might be a good toolhead for my little V-Minion.

@Penatr8tor payback is a ...... 😂

It is awesome these days with social media, open source, relatively cheep custom parts, electronics and reasonable prived computing power and software what can be created and achieved in the technical world. I could not imagine nor afford the tools to create a complex system like a 3D printer outside a company without a full development department, a few decades ago!

Yeah. But that’s going to determine what print build it goes on for me.

just about done with my virin 0.2 build. So I can print it up.  I’ll probably put it in the 2.4 I’ve almost completed.  I’m getting ready to take it apart and upgrade it from the afterburner and the octopus to stealth burner that I haven’t built yet and a leviathan.

the other 2.4 is going to have a six position stealthchanger.  So the other jabberwocky will probably go on the trident cube I’ve yet to start building.
