V2.4 Z Umbilical V2.4 Z chain replacement

Not a real build, but a small mod.

I think with all the people out there converting to CAN from the old 32 cables drag-chain, it is a cool solution.

I have done the conversion to CAN a while back and removed the Z drag chain because I wanted to replace it with another solution I had seen. Unfortunately I did not like the solution and had to wait until I ran into this one.

This mod is based on a Micron mod, and is available on HartKs github.

I printed out the stls blindly and noticed I needed a PG7 and a 2 PG9 cable glands. I did have a few PG7s left from my conversion to CAN, but didn't have any PG9s. So I did order a few. In the meantime I found on Printables a printed one, that would do the job while the ordered ones were on the way.

  

It was quite an easy move to click out all my Monolith Panels, and lift the 2.4 onto the workbench (dinner table).  

There are only 3 cables coming out of the bottom area into the backside of my 2.4. The A and B motor cables, and a chamber thermistor. I had sheated these and had to remove them to get them to fit through the printed PG9 glands.

This was the first time I really look a good look at how things fit together, and noticed HartK has designed two separate parts for the bottom panel. One broad one with a voron led design, and a smaller one. I liked the look of the bigger one better.

After swiping old plastic particles and carbon, I removed the remains of the drag chain.

 

 

 

And tidied the cables and the orientation of the separate parts. I first had to push the 5 pins plug through the PG9 cable gland. Then the other one. 

Doing it in the right order, and thinking about it first will prevent you repeat boring handlings. 

 

and a real clean look down there.

Now up to the upper part, the Gantry location.

Be careful again to first look which part you push your cables through first, 

 

and the rest is real easy... A perfect location for the exit place for the A motor on the left, and the cable for the B motor is nicely locked in with this part in the extrusion.

I now saw another problem... I do not need the PG7 gland and that extra hole... Because my Umbilical goes through the exhaust...

Nice... Time to see what the Fusion-in-1-hour taught me...

After an hour I into fusion, I am apparently barely able to look at the models, so I am glad I got done what I wanted: I removed the top part, and kept the screw hole.

this was how it looked like in Fusion.

I made it into this.

Just removing the top part, utilized for an umbilical.

This was how it looked like with the original parts:

and tis is how it looks now

I am satisfied again with the look and functionality. 

Now I will need to tuck those A / B motor wires into the extrusion: the popular misumi clips from forum do not work for my Fysetc extrusions. So I am thinking of remodeling the clips from Monolith panels to fix those.

After that I will take care of the 'almost-dead' look of the umbilical.

Almost forgot to mention. I included the modified part as a STEP file and STL file in case people want to travel the same path.

Guys, this is EXACTLY what was looking for! I love Hartk's umbilical, but am going Stealthchanger, so I didn't need the top PG7 opening anymore, and am too lazy to remix myself lmfao. Thank a ton!!!
