OrcaSlicer... Anyone using it?

Recommended Posts

So I just downloaded, installed and am experimenting with OrcaSlicer. Same deal as with SS, just download, unzip in a folder and run the .exe.

I have to say... This slicer might just replace SuperSlicer.

One of my favorite features is the ability to click on a tab and have the mainsail interface inside the slicer, Oh and I'm trying tree supports.

Here's a link to the github page... OrcaSlicer

I've used Cura for a few years now, (don't hate me....lol),  and I just switched to SS and miss the tree supports. I did see Orcaslicer in a video someplace. Mainsail in a tab!!! Like that idea....  So this may be the logical move for me. Will have to check it out!!

I've toyed with the idea of looking at it. I assume the fork does away with all the Bambu phone home stuff.

How do the settings compare to SuperSlicer? I just got my SS settings all dialed in again for my main configurations of filament & nozzle size.

I'm pretty sure It's still capable of printing to the bambu but if you're like most of us... we would just set it up for our printer/s and never see it.

As for similarities... SS is full screen for the 3 settings categories, Print, Filament and Printer where Orca it's all on the left hand side in a column. It only took setting up a few prints to get used to the UI changes. To sum up I would say that all the same tools, settings and the ability to save each is all there... now it's all on the left. The nice part is that you always see your part.

So far 3 of my printers has a profile and there are also 3 profiles for the Trident. The profile for my 2.4 really bumps up the acceleration and print speed from my more conservative numbers.

Chris... Load it up and take it for a test drive. It installs just like SS, Unzip into a folder and run. I think you'll like it.

@motley Yup, I do really like that I don't have to run mainsail in a separate browser window. Although I do anyway 😅 Habits.

So installed Orca last night and I'm sold. Absolutely love the device tab. I had to tune the accelerations for the SW of course with a few other settings. Did a test print and it came out well.... A little layer shift... more tuning required. This was the first time I've actually heard the acceleration ramping up and down as it printed... lol

I know it's still early in the game, but this looks very promising

Where could I find your V2.4 profile.  Been searching for a good baseline.

TIA
