Started a build a few weeks ago.  Sourced what I could at a local MicroCenter because my printers are old and are not really that good for dimensionally accurate parts. SO, right or wrong, taking advantage of some lightened CNC parts where possible.

Working on solving the accurate printed parts issue as I know I have to print some things, and I need them to be close to dimensionally accurate.

Printers assisting in the build... Upgraded "CR-10 SmartXL" (BTT SKR Mini E3 v3 MB, H2 Revo V2s Printhead, replaced the strain gauge leveling probe with a CR-Touch, Klipper FW), in an enclosure for printing ABS etc.  And an upgraded BiQu B1 SE Plus (H2V2s Revo, Stock SKR2 MB, linear rail for x-axis, Klipper FW) for printing incidentals.  Both printers are old and well used, but I try to keep them as fresh as possible, but I know z-axis parts are tired...

Status on build:

  • Frame done
  • Z- Axis motors/drives installed
  • Z idlers / tensioners installed
  • Bed in place
  • Working on gantry
  • Simultaneously getting electronics ready for install (printed mounts on printers mentioned above)

I will post a pic or 2 in a bit.

Made progress over the past couple of days… Frame done, Gantry in, Z belts run.  Still need to decide if going with traditional style carriage or with Tap2, so have not run those belts.  Flipped it over and started electrical/electronics.

Today I got Pi and Octopus Pro v1.0.1 loaded, configured, and talking.  Even managed to get CAN0 communication going.  EBB2209/RP2040 boards ready to go on Stealthburner.

Happy with progress.  Will stay in electronics for a bit then work on other printer to get some accurate parts going.

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally moving under its own power.  Speed is turned low to avoid issues.  QGL underway.  Having an issue getting webcam working, but all in all, everything seems to be running well.  TAP is pretty cool, glad to have opted for a tool head board.
