Wi-Fi and pi question

Got a question. The voron trident print build I’m in the process of has hit a roadblock. Had it moving and was getting ready for some fine tuning. My display was flipped so I had to remove the sd card from the pi to change a file. In the process of getting it out I cracked the memory card. Guess you know where this is going.

im doing the build in my shop at work. But to have internet access I have to haul everything up to the main office where there is WiFi.

I hook the printer up through a router to my laptop. But when I try to run ssh commands it says it can’t access the files, i.e. GitHub.

My question is does the Ethernet connection override the WiFi connection?  Should I just access the printer using ssh and going through the WiFi connection and disconnect the printer from the router altogether?

I don't think it overrides it. What may be happening is that you may be on two different networks. For example router is set up as a DNS server and issues your pi a network address of 10.0.0.30 and the ethernet has a different DNS server, setting the address as 192.168.010.  So, it would depend on where you access the pi as to the IP address it uses.

I see what you’re saying. So since I’m accessing the pi through the Ethernet connection it ignores the WiFi up which is what I need to get my files from GitHub.

the one thing I didn’t try was to see if I could access the printer through WiFi. And it’s raining now so moving everything to the shop to the office now will have to wait two weeks.

one more question. I had already flashed the firmware to the octopus prior to this. I shouldn’t have to do it again should I?  Since I’m just rebuilding klipper and mainsail.

No, unless the version you are currently have gives an error.

If you have been up to date with the klipper updates, prior to the refreshing of the SD card - all will be well no need to reflash.

I had just did it about a month ago.

and the weather cleared up. You were absolutely right. I didn’t use the router and relied solely on the WiFi and I was able to run kiauh and finish the install. Have to install and update beacon and a few other things and I’ll be back where I left off.

thanks for the help.
